What is FERPA? The Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA) of 1974 is a federal law designed to protect the confidentiality of education records. It also gives students access to their records to makes sure those records are accurate. FERPA affords students certain rights with respect to their education records.
The Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA) is a Federal law that protects the privacy of student education records. FERPA gives parents certain rights with respect to their children’s education records. Once a student turns 18 or enrolls in an institution of higher education, the rights belong to the student.
Students who wish to release grades to their parents or guardians MUST complete the FERPA Consent form each year granting access to parents.
