Champlain College Alumnus, National Chess Master, to Play U.S. Sen. Sanders and Mayor Weinberger at Chess Exhibition

David Carter, Champlain College Alumnus ‘89 ‘96, Vermont's sole National Chess Master and CFO of Vermont Economic Development Authority (VEDA), will play chess matches with VIP guests, Burlington Mayor Miro Weinberger, Senator Bernie Sanders and his wife Jane O'Meara Sanders and all comers on Thursday, Oct. 9 at 7 p.m. in the Hauke Conference Room (102) at 375 Maple St. The chess exhibition is hosted by Champlain College and sponsored by the Champlain College Chess Club and the Chittenden County Chess Club.

Carter is a Burlington native, a graduate of Burlington High School in 1977 and received his AS in accounting in 1989 and his BS in accounting in 1996. He became a Certified Public Accountant in 1997. Carter has worked for VEDA since 1997. He is married and has four children. He routinely plays in tournaments around New England and in the Chess Club at Champlain.

The event is free and open to the public. Come to play or watch as Master David Carter plays all comers in a simultaneous chess exhibition. Boards and chess sets provided.
