Champlain College Named to Princeton Review's 2016 ‘Best 380 Colleges'

Princeton Review Best 380 Colleges

BURLINGTON, Vt. - Champlain College was included in the 2016 edition of the Princeton Review's annual college guide, "The Best 380 Colleges," published Aug. 4.

"We are very pleased that The Princeton Review and other publications continue to include Champlain College as one of the top colleges in the nation," noted Catherine O'Rourke, vice president of Enrollment Management at Champlain.

"Champlain is all about helping students find their academic and career passions and developing them to their highest potential and this recognizes that ongoing effort. Preparing students for the opportunities and challenges of an increasingly competitive world is not negotiable for us. When a student graduates from Champlain College, they can be confident that they are not only career-ready, but also life-ready," she said.

The schools in "The Best 380 Colleges" (Random House / Princeton Review, $23.99) also have rating scores in eight categories based on institutional data it collected during the 2014-15 academic year and/or its student survey for the book. The ratings are scores on a scale of 60 to 99 and they appear in each school profile. Among the Champlain profile rankings are scores of 96 for quality of life, 97 for Green rating, and 78 for Academics. Champlain was ranked #8 in the "There's a Game" category.

Only 15 percent of the nation's 2,500 four-year colleges are profiled in what the Princeton Review calls its "flagship college guide."

"We base our choices primarily on data we obtain in our annual surveys of administrators at these schools and at hundreds of other colleges," said Rob Franek, Princeton Review's senior vice president. "We take into account input we get from our staff, our 27-member National College Counselor Advisory Board, our personal visits to schools, and the sizable amount of feedback we get from our surveys of students attending these schools. We also work to maintain a wide representation of colleges in the book by region, size, selectivity and character."

Champlain's professional focus was praised widely by those students who participated in the survey. The description reads: "Networking and the emphasis on internships at Champlain leads to a great deal of job placements relevant to your chosen major after (or before) graduation," extols one student.

The College's career-conscious education is "animated by Champlain's ‘invested, passionate and dedicated' professors who ‘know your name,' are ‘enthusiastic about the students' education,' and ‘have an extraordinary amount of experience in their field.'" Another student characterized undergrads as "earthy, like winter sports, artsy, outgoing, and always looking for new opportunities."

Champlain College has been a fixture on other Princeton Review lists, including the Princeton Review's Guide to 353 Green Colleges: 2015 Edition; and was named #15 in the Princeton Review's Top Undergraduate Schools for Video Game Design.

Champlain this year joined 300 of the "best and most interesting schools" listed in the 2016 "Fiske Guide to Colleges," a leading college guidebook, highlighting colleges and universities in the United States, Canada and Great Britain.

Champlain College also held steady at #14 in the list of the 2015 U.S. News & World Report's' "America's Best Colleges" list of "Best Regional Colleges in the North." The regional ranking includes all colleges in New England, New York, New Jersey, Maryland, and Pennsylvania.
