Champlain College
opened its Montréal
campus, Champlain College of Vermont, in the fall of 2007. This
is the first site owned and operated
by Champlain College. As the second
largest city in Canada and one of the largest
French speaking cities in the world, Montréal
is alive with European elegance, culture
and grace. It is the metropolitan center of French
Canada, offering a dynamic world of new experiences, a wide range of cultural traditions, cutting edge business and technology and never-ending entertainment
in
the city that some call the Paris
of Quebec.
Montréal is the
closest thing to a European city in
North America. This rich multilingual and multicultural community is home to 1.5 million people and was ranked second among 118 cities worldwide on quality of life by Geneva-based Corporate Resource Group. Montreal is just 90 minutes
north of Burlington, Vermont, but is a world away. It is
alive with shopping, dining, cultural
events and festivals. Montreal's architecture and avant-garde style speaks to the city's rich history. Although French is the dominant language, English is spoken widely here.

Academic experience
The Montréal experience is
open to students in all academic
programs. Students in Electronic
Game and Interactive Development
and Graphic Design and Digital Media may be particularly attracted
to this experience since Montréal
is the fourth largest gaming city
in the world, and is home to EA Montréal
and Ubisoft. At Champlain College du Vermont
in Montréal, most courses are the
same courses that you would take in
Burlington, taught by local Montréal Champlain College
faculty. The small, intimate nature of Champlain College of Vermont in Montréal features courses aimed at students in their junior and/or senior year. Course offerings include a core of general education courses - history, literature, and intercultural communications - and a required cultural immersion course. All courses are based on Champlain requirements but have been modified to take advantage of all that Montréal has to offer. Internships* are under development in Montréal and may be available to students in some majors. (Please note that many internships in Montréal, with the exception of video game companies and a few others, require competency in French.) Champlain online courses will be available to students who satisfy the curriculum requirements and have special program needs. Champlain Abroad students will interact with their Canadian peers in many ways: through community-based work, extra-curricular activities and day-to-day living in Montréal. Students may also be approved to satisfy curriculum requirements through Champlain's online course selections if needed to fill out their schedule or meet special needs.

Montréal Facilities
Champlain College
of Vermont comprises two buildings,
including the Academic Center on Sherbrooke
Street and the residence hall on
St. Urbain. The Academic
Center houses not only classrooms and lab space but also a student lounge and kitchen. Campus is close to the metro entrance, so the entire city is easily within reach. You'll be just up the hill from the St. Lawrence River and historic Old Montreal.
Students are housed at University of Quebec
à Montréal (UQAM) and will get a chance to
enhance their cultural experiences by
living amongst a group of international
students. Accomodations are in multi-person
suites with a full kitchen and individual
bedrooms.
High-tech concentration
Wired Magazine
recently rated Montréal on par with
New York City for its large and diverse
multimedia offerings. The city is
among the top ten metropolitan areas
in North America with respect to the
number of companies and total employment
in high-tech sectors of the economy.
Montréal supports over 50 electronic
game-related companies and development
studios, including Ubisoft, A2M and
mega-producer, Electronic Arts.
* Availability of internships may vary according to major and qualification requirements
