Alumni Advisory Board

Mission and Vision

Mission Statement:

The Alumni Advisory Board, in collaboration with the Office of Advancement and the greater Champlain College community, will facilitate mutually beneficial relationships between current and future alumni, work to ensure the College's success and contribute to the Institution's philanthropic growth by promoting an active, passionate and engaged alumni body.

Vision:

Lead an expansive network of alumni supporting the success of fellow graduates and current students and form a significant and constant alumni presence within the Champlain College community.

Alumni Board Purpose and Functions:

  • Preserve and enhance the reputation of Champlain College as an innovative, career-focused, pragmatic institution of higher education
  • Instill a sense of pride and educate our alumni about the value, network and power of the Champlain community
  • Educate our faculty, staff and students about our alumni community and the importance of their professional networks
  • Encourage lifelong career growth for alumni through mentorship and networking opportunities
  • Lead, support and engage all alumni with the College's Advancement and philanthropic initiatives

Board Members

Holly Aery

Holly Aery '14 (Early Childhood/Elementary Education)

Holly has always enjoyed working with children in schools, summer camps and after-school programs, and with her Bachelor of Science degree in Early Childhood/Elementary Education from Champlain College, she has been able to broaden her available opportunities to work with children. Since graduating in May 2014, Holly has enjoyed a variety of elementary school teaching positions in her hometown of Guilford, CT and, most recently, in Denver, CO. Holly's teaching goal is always to make school a place students want to be, and she was recognized with a STAR teacher award in 2015. During her free time, she is traveling America, reading, cooking and exploring different outdoor activities like biking and hiking. Holly is passionate about improving the world of education and has big plans to do so.

Kevin Ameden

Kevin Ameden '16 (Finance & Accounting)

Kevin is from Jamaica, Vermont and graduated from Champlain in the Spring of 2016. He is now a Staff Accountant at C&S Wholesale Grocers in Brattleboro, VT. During his senior year, Kevin served as the Director of Finance for the Student Government Association where he helped to lead two projects. These projects included the creation of a digital archive system for the retention of records as well as an inventory management system for more than 40 recognized clubs. He also co-led the creation of the student-managed investment fund which aims to allow Stiller School of Business students the opportunity to engage in a radically pragmatic, professional trading and realistic portfolio management experience. Prior to this position, he spent the summer leading into senior year at Fortress Investment Group assuming a role in their Accounting and Operations departments. In his free time, Kevin enjoys spending time outdoors and advising on all matters related to his parents' businesses.

Ali Barnes

Alison Barnes '14 (Public Relations)

Alison Barnes is a native Vermonter who loves being a local. Her involvement in the food and beverage industry for the past 10 years has given her endless opportunity and experience for future growth. She thrives on the farm to table grub and traditional family-style cooking Burlington has to offer. Ali graduated from Champlain College with a Public Relations Degree in 2014 and uses her communication skills everywhere she goes. Her favorite activities are being active, eating copious amounts of food with family and friends, and being part of community events raising awareness for all causes.

Sam Brehm

Samantha Brehm '14 (Early Childhood/Elementary Education)

Samantha is a kindergarten teacher in her hometown of Jericho, Vermont. She graduated from Champlain, in 2014, with a bachelor's degree in Early Childhood/ Elementary Education with a certification Birth–Age 3.  Samantha strives to create a loving, safe and fun classroom environment where each student knows they are able to be themselves. She is a firm believer that to be a great teacher (and human being) you must always have the personal drive to learn. Samantha constantly challenges herself to push the envelope and comfort zone so she may learn from new ideas. She views a teacher's job as one to facilitate autonomous learning, not just get through a lesson.

 When Sam is not with her students she enjoys traveling, spending time with family, walking her dog, sewing and hiking. Sam is passionate about education and has future goals of exploring educational policy or spreading her passion to future teachers. 

Chris Brown

Christopher Brown '07 (Business)

Executive Committee

Christopher Brown is a passionate innovation practitioner and Executive Committee Member of the Alumni Advisory Board at Champlain College. He works as Director of Marketing at Heartland Food Products in Philadelphia, PA. Previously, Chris held roles as Marketing Manager, Innovation at Reily Foods in New Orleans and as Product Manager, Global Innovation at Keurig Green Mountain. Prior to joining Keurig in 2009, Chris acquired a small salon and spa business and transformed it into a purpose-driven brand experience that earned local and national admiration for its advanced, plant-derived hair coloring system and haircare products. In addition to his degree from Champlain, Chris holds an MBA with a concentration in Innovation and New Venture Management from Clarkson University. 

Ginger Camp

Ginger Camp '06 (Tourism & Event Management/Business)

Executive Committee

A sub-ultra athlete, rock climber, yogi and meditation student, if Ginger is not being active or playing with her pit bull puppy, she is facilitating relaxation as a Certified Massage Therapist. Ginger graduated in 2006 with a degree in Tourism and Event Management/Business, and she has worn many career hats over the years. From wedding & event planner to operations manager and supply-chain coordinator, she's almost done it all. Champlain College provided Ginger with a variety of tools to succeed and continues to be a great networking resource.

Sarah Cloutier

Sarah Cloutier '97 (Paralegal Studies)

Being a 1997 graduate of Champlain College's Paralegal Program has prepared Sarah to support managing partners, shareholders, partners and associate level attorneys in diverse locations.  She has experience working with attorneys in office sizes from a sole practitioner in Vermont to an international law firm in Washington, D.C. She has also supported C-Suite attorneys in the legal department of a Fortune 200 company in Arlington, Virginia.  

Giving back to her community is one of her highest priorities, serving as a volunteer to The Posse Foundation in Washington, D.C. and as a member of The Campagna Center in Alexandria, Virginia.  Most recently, she assembled a team and participated in the COTS Walk in Burlington, Vermont.

Emily Cobb

Emily Cobb '14 (Early Childhood/Elementary Education)

Emily Cobb graduated from Champlain College in 2014 with a Bachelor's degree in Early Childhood/Elementary Education. Her teaching journey started right here in Vermont, following graduation, when she was hired by Lyndon Town School. Emily quickly moved to Lyndonville to prepare for her new role as a third grade teacher. She fell in love with the school, teachers, students and community and is still teaching at Lyndon Town School today.  Emily's goal as an educator is to grow in her abilities to create a safe, welcoming learning environment where students are able to learn through hands on-activities. She strives to appeal to all types of learning styles, and always creates opportunities for students to be successful.  Emily is pursuing an M.Ed. in Instruction and Curriculum with a specialization in Technology. Professionally, she will continue teaching while building her knowledge and skills within the field, and she hopes to eventually become a principal. Emily plans to share her knowledge, help teachers grow to best support their students educationally and emotionally, and give teachers a stronger voice. 

Sandi Earle

Sandi Earle '14 (Business Management)

Chef Sandi Earle is a longtime foodie and veteran of the culinary industry. She has worked for Sodexo Corporation since 2002, and is currently the Executive Chef at Champlain College. She has worked for many Vermont restaurants and as a Senior Sales rep at Williams-Sonoma. Sandi graduated from Champlain College in May 2014, with a Bachelor's of Science degree in Business Management with a focus on Hotel/Restaurant Management, and she also earned a certificate in Business Management, a certificate in Entrepreneurship and a certificate in Web Marketing.  

Joe Gaetani

Joe Gaetani '06 (Business)

Long before YouTube was a household name, Joe Gaetani was filming and editing the action all around him. From VHS to DVD and the primordial days of internet video, Joe was drawing inspiration from snowboarding, skateboarding and surfing films to craft his own brand of viral video. In 2002, during his first year at Champlain College, Joe founded Rightside Productions as a means to have fun with his friends—unaware that it would eventually lead to his livelihood. Today, Joe has single-handedly grown Rightside into an award-winning, full-service, multimedia production firm based in Burlington with an international reach. Clients are the eclectic mix you'd expect for Vermont—Ben & Jerry's, Burton, National Life Group, Bruegger's Bagels, Cabot Cheese and J Skis, just to name a few. Accolades include winning the 2012 Filmmaker Showdown "Best in Show" award at the Telus Ski and Snowboard World Festival in Whistler, BC. When not behind the lens, you'll find Joe with his wife Tori snowboarding, surfing, hiking and mountain biking with their toddler Isabel in tow.

Maureen Golden

Maureen Golden '04 G'15 (Professional Studies & Master of Science in Law)

Executive Committee

Maureen Golden completed her BS in Business Management at Champlain College and went on to complete her Master of Science in Law at Champlain in 2015. Maureen is Vice President and Business Relationship Manager at Keybank, and she was previously a Commercial and Residential Loan Officer at Peoples Trust Company. When she is not working or volunteering at Champlain, Maureen teaches at Community College of Vermont and enjoys mountain biking, alpine skiing, writing and spending as much time as possible with her husband Mike, her family and her friends. Maureen is also a committed volunteer with the United Way and Dragonheart Vermont, where she competes in dragon boat racing with her team on a national level.

Chris Gookin

Maj. Christopher Gookin '99 (Liberal Studies)

Major Christopher Gookin is the JFHQ Public Affairs Officer at Joint Force Headquarters-Vermont and a Major in the Medical Service Corps of the US Army. He has a long and distinguished military career and has served as a Platoon Leader, Company Commander and S4-Squadron Logistics Officer. Chris also has extensive experience in higher education, having worked in Admissions at Cambridge College in MA and at Norwich University in Northfield, VT. 

Audrey Holm Hansen

Audrey Holm-Hansen '94 '11 (Electrical Technology / Legal Studies)

Audrey Holm-Hansen received an AS in Electrical Technology from Champlain College in 1994 as a part-time student and full-time IBM employee, after having already received a BS in Physics from RPI and an MS in Computer Science from UVM. Before retiring from Vermont's Air National Guard in 2012, Audrey used Champlain’s tuition discount benefit to complete the Legal Studies Program and earned her Paralegal Certificate in 2011. She’s currently using her education by serving pro bono as condo board president and Planned Residential Development board treasurer. Audrey is the 2013 recipient of the Robert A. Skiff Alumni Leadership Award.

Laura Huffman

Laura Huffman '05 (Business)

Laura is received her Business degree from Champlain College in 2005. Shortly after graduation, Laura pursued a career as a lender at the corporate headquarters for one of the largest banks in the US. However, a few years later she switched gears looking find a more entrepreneurial company to continue her career with. In 2010 she joined the sales team at commando LLC, a Vermont-based fashion line. During her time there, she was able to apply the strong foundation of business skills she learned at Champlain with the company's need for project management during a new software implementation. After a successful integration, the experience led Laura to combine that business background and a curiosity for technology to refocus her career path while staying in the fashion business. In the summer of 2016 she transitioned to a new career in Indianapolis, joining the fashion line Lyssé as the Business Application Systems Manager. Her skills have her positioned to lead IT initiatives with a complete business perspective rather than a solely IT perspective. Having grown up and lived most of her life in New England, Laura is excited to be living in the Crossroads of America and is ready to start exploring the region. From watching races at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway to tasting all the Midwest has to offer along the KY Bourbon Trail, she is always ready for the next adventure!

Stephen Jablonski

Stephen Jablonski '12 (Computer & Digital Forensics)

Born in New Jersey, Stephen came to Vermont for college in 2008. After graduating with a degree in Computer & Digital Forensics in 2012, Stephen worked as a Data Analyst at Dealer.com. In August 2016, Stephen joined the team at American Meadows as their only Data Analyst. In his free time, he trains for obstacle races, such as the Tough Mudder and Spartan, enjoys soccer around Burlington, writes for a blog, practices bass, plays video games and indulges in movies and TV shows. He supports conservation efforts worldwide and is passionate about science and art in any form.

Mark Mercy

Mark Mercy '02 (Business Administration)

Executive Committee

Vermont native Mark C. Mercy is a 2002 Business Administration graduate of Champlain College with Dean's List honors. His professional background originated in mortgage finance, where he quickly excelled by leveraging national lending resources to deliver company-leading performance which in-turn earned him multiple sales-achievement awards. With growing long-term aspirations, Mark relocated to Boston, MA, changing career objectives and finding opportunity in specialty medicines. Now working within an industry-leading respiratory business unit of Teva Pharmaceuticals, he has cultivated leadership qualities, led project development initiatives with potential of full organizational impact, directed regional training and mentorship initiatives and has earned multiple prestigious President's Club awards. Involvement in organizations where Mark can give back is something that he strongly values. Mark has been fortunate to enjoy a successful Big-match through Big Brothers Big Sisters of Massachusetts Bay and currently serves on the Alumni Advisory Board, Executive Committee for Champlain College. His interests include skiing, biking and golf as well as spending time with family and friends. Other business endeavors involve real estate investments and the development of a Web and mobile App technology start-up. Mark, along with his better half Jennifer, daughter Payton and their Goldendoodle, Addison, reside minutes outside Boston in bucolic Westwood, MA.

Roland Palmer

Roland Palmer '90 (Computers in Management)

Roland (on the right in the picture with his husband Mark) is a native Vermonter who grew up in Hinesburg. He started working at Champlain College in July, 2006 as Director of Advancement Services. Roland is also an active member of the Champlain College Rainbow Alliance Group (an LGBTQ Affinity Group for Champlain faculty & staff) and serves on the Board of Directors of the Gay & Lesbian Fund of Vermont.

Alana Perry

Alana Perry '15 (Communications)

Alana was born and raised in the Green Mountain State, and graduated from Champlain in 2015 with a degree in Communications. She currently works as an Assistant Director of Undergraduate Admissions at Champlain where she has had the opportunity to meet people from all over the country. During her time as a student at Champlain, she served as a member of the Student Ambassador Team and Intern Team within the Admissions office. It is fair to say that both of these opportunities are what opened her eyes to the world of higher education. In May of 2017, Alana received her Master's Degree in Executive Leadership from Champlain. This accomplishment has empowered her to take on new leadership roles within every community she is a part of.

In her free time, Alana enjoys being with friends and family, trying new food at one of the many delicious restaurants in Burlington, and being outdoors. She spends a majority of her weekends hiking, skiing, camping and traveling.

Owen Phipps '12

Owen Phipps '12 (Computer Information Systems)

Owen Phipps graduated from Champlain College in 2012 with a degree in Computer Information Systems. While attending Champlain, he balanced both working and attending school full-time. He now manages a team of integration engineers in multiple offices throughout the US at CJ Affiliate by Conversant. In his spare time, he enjoys playing golf, traveling and spending time with his wife and daughter.

Nick Pugliese

Nick Pugliese '13 (Graphic Design & Digital Media)

Nick Pugliese is a Creative Designer at Criteo in Boston, MA. Before moving to Boston, Nick was a Media Designer in the Advertising department at Dealer.com. He graduated from Champlain College in 2013 with a degree in Graphic Design & Digital Media. When he is not working, Nick is taking full advantage for what Vermont has to offer through the seasons. From snowboarding in the winter to soccer during the summer, he lives and loves the active lifestyle. Nick also has a passion for cooking and spends most of his free time in the kitchen.

Adam Rowe

Adam Rowe '14 (Marketing Management)

Adam Rowe is the Marketing Manager for the Vermont Ski Areas Association. Previously, Adam lived in Connecticut where he worked in marketing for the off-road industry. There he specialized in sales and marketing, content management, trade show coordination and community building. He also worked closely with industry partners to help cross promote and strengthen brands on multiple levels. As a Champlain student, Adam held leadership roles in the SGA (President 2012-2013, Vice President 2011-2012) and served on the 2014 Senior Class Gift committee.

Jeremy Walla

Jeremy Walla '15 (Accounting)

Jeremy graduated from Champlain in May of 2015 with a degree in Accounting and recently completed his MBA at the University of New Hampshire. As a native of New Hampshire, Jeremy decided to stay in the area and is now a Business Analyst at Lake Street Advisors, a boutique wealth management firm in Portsmouth. Prior to leaving Champlain, he served as the Director of Finance for the Student Government Association, and he continues to keep in touch with current SGA leaders. While in that position, Jeremy helped lead two major projects for the SGA. These projects included a new office/student space, called The Hearthstone (located in IDX), and the creation of a student-managed investment fund. Needless to say, he's a strong supporter of the college and is excited to be a member of the advisory board. In his free time, Jeremy enjoys golfing and racing BMWs with his father. Jeremy also serves on the Champlain College Board of Trustees.
