Thursday, April 9th

  • 1:00–2:00 PM: Student Readings. Join some of Champlain’s most radical scribblers as they read poems and stories penned while wandering the hallways and sidewalks of campus.
  • 3:00–3:45 PM: Fake Wood Panel One: Where Ideas Come From and How They Become Books. (MIC 201) With Sheila Liming, Fia Moser-Hardy, Tanya Stone, & Jim Ellefson.
  • 4:00–4:45 PM: Kraftwerk One: How to Create Believable Characters. (MIC 201) Spend a deeply fascinating afternoon with Fia Moser-Hardy and Tanya Stone as they delve into what makes a protagonist tick. Ever wonder how some characters seem so real they could almost walk off the page? Come find out.
  • 5:00–5:45 PM: Mix and Mingle on 3rd Floor Patio/Vista Room. Join authors and guests for a convivial hang with the best view in Burlington.
  • 5:45–6:15 PM: Fake Wood Panel Two: The Final Countdown. Champlain Seniors talk capstone, writing while studying, and the pitfalls of creation at the brink of the whole wide world.
  • 6:15–7:00 PM: Dinner Date with Sheila Liming. Erik Shonstrom interviews author Sheila over snacks and beverages. Possible topics: Do we hate other writers with a jealous passion? And, how building a community of writers to sustain creativity is vital to being an author.
  • 7:00–7:45 PM: Fia Moser-Hardy Reading. YA novelist and educator Moser-Hardy will offer up some snippets of prose from her past and ongoing work. Oh, you lucky people.
  • 7:45–8:30 PM: Special Guest Reading with David Holub. Also known as Colossal Sanders, who has a wide-ranging career as an author, journalist, artist, and general literary rabble-rouser, Holub will offer readings and conversation drawing on a deep history as a writer and editor.
