Building relationships through public relations work
As a high school student, Grace Boyle took a class called Enlightened Public Relations. Her teachers and peers all thought she was a natural, so she decided to pursue the career further when she landed at Champlain. After a semester studying abroad in Italy, Grace returned to Vermont and started her internship as an event planner for the ECHO Lake Aquarium and Science Center/Leahy Center for Lake Champlain in Burlington.
"It's a community-building experience, and I get to meet and work with many influential people, like [Senator] Pat Leahy and [former Vermont governor] Howard Dean," she says. "You build personal relationships. It's not your typical nine-to-five job." She credits professors such as Nancy Kerr with her presence both in and out of the classroom. "It's been such a great opportunity," says Grace. "I feel truly blessed."
