Champlain College Online Extends truED Offerings to Active Duty Service Members

BURLINGTON, Vt.--Champlain College today announced beginning January 2017 active duty service members, National Guard members and members from Reserve Components of the U.S. Armed Forces, and their spouses and eligible adult dependents now have access to its more than 50 nationally ranked, fully online post-secondary undergraduate and graduate degrees and certificates at up to 70 percent off standard tuition through its truED® program.

The truED educational alliance includes more than 55 leading government and private sector organizations that leverage Champlain's career-focused curriculum as a part of their workforce development strategy at a substantial discount. Champlain College is the first U.S. college to extend the same tuition benefits it offers active duty service members to their spouses and eligible adult dependents.

Service members face many natural barriers to degree completion, such as unpredictable deployments, intense training schedules and the high cost of tuition. Champlain prioritizes affordability and accessibility so that service members can enhance their careers, elevate their strategic and tactical aptitude and close critical skills gaps in high-demand fields both within the armed forces and when transitioning to government and private sector occupations in business, cyber security, information systems, and more.

"Military members and their families make sacrifices every day in service to our country. Champlain College has the privilege of offering them a bachelor's degree at as low as $167 per credit online, because we believe education is the key to unlocking lifetime earning potential," said Donald J. Laackman, president of Champlain College. "The research is clear that bachelor's degree holders have significantly more opportunity and make 84 percent more than those with only a high school diploma."

Numerous bachelor's degree programs at Champlain College Online are designed to assist service members in finishing their degrees faster and maximizing transfer credits. In the acclaimed online Bachelor of Science in Integrated Studies, many service members choose to use their military training as a focus area while completing a relevant curriculum comprised of both general education and professional courses. Each service member will receive guidance on the most expedient path to degree completion, and can transfer in up to 90 credits from a combination of military training, prior college credit, and other documented sources.

"The training and discipline developed through military service makes you realize your greater potential - and higher education helps you take it to the next level," said David Boyle, Veteran and Military Program manager at Champlain College Online. "As a former service member, I know the obstacles that come with transitioning careers within the military and outside of it. This program takes the uncertainty out of higher education by establishing a clear pathway guided by academic advisors and assisted by a counselor with an extensive military background."

Students are enrolled in truED across the globe - as well as across every federal agency, due to Champlain's alliance with the U.S. Office of Personnel Management. Service members and their families can expect:

  • A 100% online classroom with 24/7 access even from mobile devices;
  • Maximum use of transfer credits for military experience;
  • No set class times that allows for scheduling flexibility;
  • A dedicated academic advisor who advocates for each student and to help them achieve degree completion; and
  • A quality assurance team that ensures instructors are meaningfully engaged with students in the classroom.
  • Free webinars for all active-service prospective students will be offered on Tuesday, Dec. 13 at 11 a.m. EST and Wednesday, Dec. 14 at 2 p.m. EST.
