Dr. J. Churchill Hindes serves as VP for Accountable Care for Fletcher Allen Health Care, and is the immediate past President and Chief Executive Officer for one of the largest and oldest home health agencies in northern New England with a $26 million operating budget, 700 employees and 700 volunteers. The Visiting Nurse Association of Chittenden and Grand Isle Counties provides a wide range of acute and long-term home care and community based programs including maternal and child health, specialized nursing and therapy services, personal care, adult day health, palliative care and hospice care including the Vermont Respite House. The VNA serves an average daily census of 1,200 patients and delivers nearly 500,000 service encounters each year. At the VNA, Church was responsible for overall executive leadership of the corporation, including Board development and relations, program and financial management, public affairs, strategic planning, and budgeting. He continues to serve on a number of community and regional boards and was selected as a member of the Vermont Business Roundtable.
Prior to joining the Visiting Nurse Association, Dr. Hindes was Vice President for Finance and Administrative Director for Medical Group Operations at Fletcher Allen Health Care (the academic tertiary care system in Burlington, Vermont). Before those positions, he was Chief Financial Officer for the University Health Center (then the faculty practice plan for the University of Vermont College of Medicine). Church has also served as the Deputy Secretary of Administration for the State of Vermont and as the State Budget Director/Vermont Commissioner of Finance and Management.
Church encourages crossover of learning and experience between classroom and workplace. He lectures extensively on health policy, finance, and leadership. He holds doctoral and master's degrees from the University of Iowa (Hospital and Health Administration/Health Policy) and is a graduate of Saint Michael's College (Liberal Arts).
