Families are usually surprised and impressed when they visit Burlington. Just down the hill from Champlain's main campus is Burlington's downtown scene. Set near Lake Champlain, you can hear live performances while eating local foods on the pedestrian-only Church Street, or take a stroll through the Farmers Market in City Hall Park on Saturdays. Burlington offers restaurants, coffee bars, shopping, music venues and varied cultural opportunities within a quick walk from campus.
Lake Champlain's waterfront, ECHO aquarium and science center, and the 12-mile Burlington Bike Path are within a short walk of campus. World-class skiing, snowboarding, hiking and mountain biking are within an hour's drive. Be sure your son or daughter brings their favorite recreational equipment with them to campus.
|ECHO LAKE AQUARIUM & SCIENCE CENTER: Right on the shore of Lake Champlain is the ECHO Lake Aquarium and Science Center. Explore and learn about the Lake Champlain Basin, with an aquarium, engaging exhibits, hands-on activities, events and programs in this LEED-certified building. Parents, don't forget to check out ECHO's AfterDark series, programs targeted for the 21+, blending cocktails and intellect for a night of socializing and fun.|
|LAKE CHAMPLAIN SHORELINE CRUISES: Take a cruise around the lake on the Spirit of the Ethan Allen III. Lake Champlain Shoreline Cruises run throughout the day with options like educational scenic cruises and themed dinners.|
|BURLINGTON BIKE PATH: Burlington's 7.5 mile recreational route was one of the first dedicated bike paths in New England. The Path follows the Lake Champlain shoreline, offering some of the best views of Lake Champlain and the Adirondack Mountains.|
|FLYNN CENTER FOR THE PERFORMING ARTS: In the heart of Burlington's downtown is the Flynn Center for the Performing Arts. Featuring Broadway shows and world-class music, the Flynn has a show for everyone.|
|SHOPPING AND DINING ON THE CHURCH STREET MARKETPLACE: For casual strolls, serious shopping, great food, street vendors and people-watching, the Church Street Marketplace is just a quick walk down the hill from Champlain's campus.|
|LAKE CHAMPLAIN CHOCOLATES: Since 1983, Lake Champlain Chocolates has been making chocolates with exquisite flavor and fresh ingredients. Take a free chocolate factory tours Monday -Friday at their location on Pine Street in Burlington.|

|SHELBURNE MUSEUM: On Route 7, just seven miles south of Burlington, the Shelburne Museum holds one of the nation's most eclectic collections of folk art, decorative art, tools, toys, textiles and transportation vehicles, as well as paintings by Monet, Manet, Cassatt, Degas and Wyeth. The museum is open from May through October.|

|TRAPP FAMILY LODGE: Many people don't know that when the Von Trapp Family escaped Austria during WW II, the family settled in Stowe, Vermont. Now The Von Trapp Family Lodge is a mountain resort, complete with mountain biking and hiking trails, horse drawn carriage rides, snowshoeing and backcountry skiing trails, maple sugaring, historical tours, wine tastings and massages. The Trapp Lodge also opened the Trapp Lager Brewery in 2010.|
