Vanpooling
What is a Vanpool?
Vanpooling is a flexible, low-cost commuting option where a small group of coworkers share a ride in a college-provided SUV or van. Instead of driving solo, you split the monthly cost with your group — covering gas, insurance, and maintenance — while taking turns behind the wheel. It’s one of the most cost-effective and environmentally friendly commute options out there, and it’s a great way to build connections with colleagues.
How It Works
Champlain College has partnered with Go! Vermont and Commute with Enterprise to make vanpooling easy. Here’s the basic rundown:
- Form a group. Find 4–7 coworkers or friends with a similar commute route and schedule. Not sure where to start? The Office of Transportation and Commute with Enterprise can help match you with others in your area.
- Get your vehicle. Once a vanpool is established, we will set you up with a newer model SUV or van — fully insured and maintained.
- Split the cost. Each rider pays a low monthly fee that covers all operating costs. Most participants save 50% or more compared to driving alone.
- Set your schedule. Your group, with the help of Champlain’s Commute with Enterprise representative, decides when and where you meet, and you take turns driving. You can even store the vehicle at your home or a nearby park-and-ride.
Flexible Participation with Flex Vanpool
Not ready to commit to five days a week? No problem. The Flex Vanpool program lets you participate even if you only commute to campus a day or two a week. Vehicles are rented month-to-month, so there’s no long-term commitment required.
