The Resident Advisor (RA) position is an exciting opportunity for highly motivated, highly qualified Champlain College students. As an RA, you’ll develop leadership, problem-solving, conflict management, and communication skills while helping fellow students thrive. From planning activities with current residents that encourage making connections and building teamwork to monitoring the halls, you will help create a welcoming and inclusive environment for your residents.

Resident Advisors are compensated with a single room in the residence hall to which they are assigned and a stipend of $1,000 per semester paid in bi-weekly installments.

Champ 101 Peer Facilitators are student leaders who mentor first-year students as they transition to Champlain College. For the first 10 weeks of the fall semester, a Faculty/Staff Facilitator and a Peer Facilitator work together with a cohort of 20 students. They co-facilitate required workshops once or twice per week, meet together to plan and reflect, study the Champ 101 curriculum, and support students one-on-one as needed.

This is a terrific opportunity to serve as a welcoming peer resource, strengthen public speaking skills, and give back to the Champlain community. Peer Facilitators receive initial training and ongoing support throughout the program.

We encourage all motivated students to apply to become a Champ 101 Peer Facilitator. Recruitment starts in the spring semester for the following academic year. Keep an eye out for the job posting on Handshake.

Give that warm Champlain welcome to our new students!

Orientation Leaders (OLs) are student leaders who play a HUGE role in welcoming the incoming class to Champlain during New Student Orientation in August. Help build a sense of community and belonging among first-year and transfer students. OLs lead events such as the Lake Champlain boat cruise, bowling party, and fun in the Student Life Center, featuring The Grind. OLs also head smaller orientation groups to guide students through the first days of college. Serve as an approachable resource and provide information to new students about campus and student life, where to find campus resources, and where to go for orientation events. Celebrate the beginning of a new chapter with our new Champlain College students!

There is also an opportunity for OLs to welcome new students during January Orientation.

Orientation Leaders are paid and selected through an application and interview process. Applications open at the beginning of spring semester. Be on the lookout for information!

Description

Become a mentor for your fellow students!

Peer Coaches are student mentors who represent the InSight Program and the Career Collaborative. Through this leadership role, students develop essential communication and collaboration skills highly valued in any industry. Through facilitating workshops and hosting office hours, Peer Coaches strengthen their public speaking and presentation abilities while building confidence in a professional setting. By supporting signature events and coordinating with program staff, they cultivate teamwork, peer-to-peer collaboration, and project management capabilities. Peer Coaches also gain valuable experience in program development and strategic thinking by brainstorming initiatives and resources that prepare Champlain students for successful transitions from academic to professional life.

We encourage all motivated students to apply to become a Peer Coach! Recruitment starts in the spring semester for the following academic year. Keep an eye out for emails from your Career Coach, or talk to a current Peer Coach for recruitment information. Available positions will be posted on Handshake, so make sure to check regularly for opportunities.

There are three types of Peer Coaches:

Personal Finance Peer Coaches: These coaches focus on topics such as credit, salary negotiation, budgeting, cost of living analysis, investments and student loan repayment strategies. They participate in dedicated trainings to become experts in these areas so they can empower other students to make informed financial decisions.

Career Peer Coaches: These coaches work closely with the professional staff in the Career Collaborative and represent all academic divisions. They host daily drop-in hours at Perry Hall and assist students with Career InSight milestone completion and the on-campus job search process.

Wellbeing Peer Coaches: These coaches have a dual role, supporting the wellbeing theme of InSight as well as Dare to CARE campus events and activities. Both responsibilities involve meaningful collaboration with a variety of campus partners and help us build a strong culture of wellbeing on campus.

All Peer Coaches are student leaders on campus and receive additional training in leadership skill development.

Description

Student Ambassadors are the brand ambassadors and public faces of Champlain College. Student Ambassadors represent a variety of years and majors that strive to share their passion for Champlain with visitors to the College. Student Ambassadors give tours of Champlain’s campus and assist with various admissions events such as receptions, open houses, and student panels. Your to-do list will also include assisting in direct mailing projects, prospective student outreach, and operational tasks. You’ll be responsible for showcasing the amazing community, resources, and opportunities offered at Champlain.

To apply to the Student Ambassador team, you must have completed at least one semester at Champlain and maintain a minimum GPA of 2.5. Students can apply via Handshake. Description

The Student Government Association (SGA) offers opportunities for leadership development, involvement, and personal growth within Champlain College. Whether you’re looking to start a club, an on-campus initiative, or become a member, SGA is here for you! Located off of Fireside Lounge, the Hearthstone (SGA hub) is available for any and all students looking for a place to study, hang out, or have questions answered about the SGA from our Representatives.

Each member of SGA is available during office hours– located on the SGA website. The SGA also holds House of Representatives meetings every Wednesday from 3:00 to 4:30 PM in CCM 444. These meetings are open to any student, faculty, or staff who would like to attend. If you can’t join us but are still interested in knowing what happens at these meetings, you can view the monthly minutes on the Archives page.

If you are interested in starting a club of your own, it requires one Club Head, nine interested current Champlain students, and one faculty advisor. In addition, all club activities must align with the College’s Student Code of Conduct.
