I love problem-solving, helping peers, and helping with other people’s work instead of doing my own.

Computers and software work on logic that seems like magic. Don’t fight it, understand it. We get to become magicians when we work with it.

I come from all over the place, my parents are Italian and Dominican, I was born in NYC, but I grew up in Oaxaca, Mexico. if you hear an accent, it’s probably that of a Oaxacan teen.

I think one of the best ways of learning is teaching! Plus I’ve been wanting to use our labs more often.

When you notice yourself trying to brute-force a solution, take a step back (and a break if you need) and try to look at it from a different perspective!

Be very aware of the scope of your game projects. Overscoping is an easy way to get overwhelmed/burnt out and not finish what you’re working on.

When I was little I wanted to be a teacher when I grew up. That’s not really my goal anymore, but I still really enjoy teaching, especially literature and writing analysis!

Do work in the labs when you can, being around other people in the same/similar major as you can help a lot!

Why do you want to be a tutor?

I found that I would already often help out fellow students with schoolwork, so I thought it would be great to become an actual tutor. I believe it also helps me refine my skills as well, so it’s really a win-win.

Advice to Champlain Student?

It’s a good practice to seek advice from others sometimes, whether that be for assignments, resume help, or just general advice. Since one of the benefits of college is getting to study with others (as well as having access to student services that help with these exact things), why not broaden your perspective and build you knowledge with the help of your student peers and faculty if you are stuck or curious about something? It’s usually pretty helpful!

Fun Fact

Besides locking myself in my little programming dungeon for long periods of time, I also really like going outside and doing things like mountain biking. I once did an 82 mile ride up one of the tallest mountains in the San Francisco Bay Area (Mount Diablo) which was as fun as it was tiring.

I chose to be a tutor because I love to help my peers, and writing is something I am good at. I wanted to share my knowledge with other students to help them grow as writers.

One piece of advice I have for Champlain students is, don’t be afraid to ask for help. Champlain College has so many amazing resources for students that should be taken advantage of.

I want to go grad school and TAing would help lessen the cost drastically so I wanted to get some experience in helping out other students.

Advice to Champlain Student?

Get ahead on your homework at the beginning of the semester when things aren’t too hard yet. Then when you start to fall behind later in the semester you’ll fall to where you’re supposed to be.

I love sea slugs and I collect a specific brand of plush sea slugs.
