Computers and software work on logic that seems like magic. Don’t fight it, understand it. We get to become magicians when we work with it.

I come from all over the place, my parents are Italian and Dominican, I was born in NYC, but I grew up in Oaxaca, Mexico. if you hear an accent, it’s probably that of a Oaxacan teen.

Why do you want to be a tutor?

I love helping people through their problems! We all get stuck sometimes, and I think its important to have a friendly voice to talk to while stuck.

Advice to Champlain Student?

Break your problems down into smaller pieces! From there, ask yourself which pieces you’re stuck on. Often, you’ll find that you know more than you think!

I love music! I’m primarily into music from the 1980s to 2000s, but I enjoy a wide variety of genres.

Jill Chapin

Why do you want to be a tutor?

I chose to be a tutor because I know how much support from my peers in the computer labs has helped me improve my confidence and skills in game development. I’m hoping to give other students that chance, and learn a little for myself along the way.

Advice to Champlain Student?

Get a cheap little notebook and a pencil. Carry those with you to jot down ideas, debug problems, plan tasks, etc. The cheaper the better, so you don’t care about wasting paper. Having a space for all your notes helps you start the mental work of designing and coding without the pressure of actually getting in-engine.

I think one of the best ways of learning is teaching! Plus I’ve been wanting to use our labs more often.

When you notice yourself trying to brute-force a solution, take a step back (and a break if you need) and try to look at it from a different perspective!

I love troubleshooting and working with people to solve problems. Game Art is a pressure-heavy major sometimes and solutions aren’t always obvious, so I want to help my peers find good resources and develop useful strategies.

Advice to Champlain Student?

Make lists when you feel overwhelmed by big projects. If you break the monolith up into individual steps, it usually stops feeling so insurmountable.
