Champlain’s NASAD-accredited BA in Graphic Design offers a flexible, interdisciplinary approach to design grounded in visual communication, cultural context, and critical thinking.

You’ll develop fluency in the visual language of typography, color, composition, and image while exploring how design shapes—and is shaped by—social, historical, and technological forces.

By the time you graduate, you’ll be able to:

  • Interpret and analyze visual work through historical, cultural, and theoretical frameworks, with attention to evolving social and technological contexts.
  • Communicate ideas effectively using visual, verbal, and written forms, adapting strategies for different audiences, media, and disciplinary contexts.
  • Evaluate and articulate the aesthetic and conceptual intent of design work, including one’s own and others’, in relation to purpose and audience.
  • Apply design methodologies—including ideation, iteration, and critique—to explore and address complex, interdisciplinary questions.
  • Demonstrate awareness of the ethical, cultural, and societal implications of visual communication, and reflect on the designer’s role in public life.
