Responsible Employees have the obligation to report sexual harassment, sexual misconduct, domestic violence, dating violence or stalking to the Title IX Coordinator.
A “Responsible Employee” includes any non-student employee who: (1) has the authority to take action to redress the harassment; or (2) has the duty to report to appropriate school officials sexual harassment or any other misconduct by students or employees. Every College employee who is not a student and does not have legally protected confidentiality is considered a Responsible Employee. This includes all employees with supervisory or leadership responsibilities on campus, including, but not limited to, faculty, administrators, Champlain College Online employees, and staff members.
Employees listed under Confidential Resources are exempt from these reporting requirements. Confidential Resource staff receive specific training to support their clients and connect them to College and community resources, if a client wishes.
Responsible Employees are respectful of a complainant’s wishes to the extent appropriate and are discreet, but they are not able to guarantee confidentiality.
The College requires that all Responsible Employees report disclosures of Prohibited Conduct to the Title IX Coordinator or a Deputy Title IX Coordinator. The purpose of this requirement is to permit the College to take immediate and corrective action to respond to allegations of Prohibited Conduct.
Campus security authorities who become aware of Clery crimes will report them to the College’s Campus Public Safety so that they may be included in the College’s compilation of campus crime statistics. The College will not include the names of complainants or other identifying information in publicly-available reports that are compiled as required by the Clery Act.
