Media Production Minor
Effective media production is a foundation of any successful business. Learn about streaming, social media and traditional media, as well as how to write, produce, and edit content for each.
Why Minor in Media Production?
Having skills in media production will make you a more capable and knowledgeable team member; companies in every industry use media, and many rely on these platforms to some extent. In our Media Production minor, you’ll build skill sets that you can draw upon in any of your future endeavors.
Through the Media Production minor, you’ll become familiar with IoT (Internet of Things) devices, streaming, social media, and traditional media. For each medium, you’ll learn the best production methods, including writing, producing, and editing content.
Enhance a business, technical, or humanitarian degree by learning the skills to engage your audience with a story. This minor is an ideal complement to any major outside the Division of Communication & Creative Media. (The minor is unavailable to students within the CCM Division due to overlapping course content.)
Upon completion of this minor, you will be able to:
- Demonstrate an understanding of audio and visual storytelling for a range of content-creation applications in the marketplace, including journalism, marketing, and social media communication for companies and nonprofit organizations.
- Demonstrate an in-depth understanding of field- and studio-based equipment and industry standard software—the technical tools of content and programming for broadcast and client-based production.
- Demonstrate writing competency for broadcast media styles that are appropriate for varied communication professions and audiences.
- Produce sophisticated deliverables for clients in a variety of areas, namely: corporate/industrial, informational/educational, and commercial/promotional.
