Students at Champlain are learning about sustainability, service, and civic engagement in a variety of ways, both inside and outside the classroom.
Getting connected with the local Burlington community is important and fulfilling work. We make these connections easy through service events held in and out of classes as well as acting as a networker for Champlain affiliates. We also encourage students to think about service work in their capstone projects either for campus or for the community.
Sustainability is a critical topic for 21st-century citizens to understand, regardless of field or profession.
To assist our faculty in incorporating the topic of sustainability into their courses and their everyday life, we create and support development opportunities and resources. If you are a faculty member who wants to include sustainability in some aspect, please reach out!
In an effort to explain some of the sustainability features at Champlain College, we’ve created interpretive signage to help tell the stories. The text and layout of signs were developed by Sustain Champlain interns and Work Study students.
See if you can find them all on your walk about campus!
Champlain College offers several service learning courses each semester with awesome community partnerships. Look for ‘SL’ when scheduling classes! Many 1-credit courses have a service component, too.
Eco-Reps are peer educators within college residence halls and across campus who model environmentally responsible living behaviors and conduct education and outreach to fellow residents.
Trained and coordinated by the Sustainability Coordinator, Eco-Reps connect with appropriate campus personnel and resources to work toward ecologically mindful practices on campus. Eco-Rep activities are generally focused within the residential areas of campus, but can spill out into broader campus issues when most applicable.
