Alex Martin
Program Coordinator of the Women's and Gender Center
Biography
Alex W. Martin (They/Them/Theirs) is passionate about Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion efforts and wants to make the world a better place by uplifting voices of marginalized communities and helping people see themselves in the world.
A Hoosier from the Green Mountain State, Alex is originally from Starksboro, VT, then moved to Indianapolis, IN as a teenager in 2013. After graduating with their BA in Telecommunications from Ball State University in 2019, Alex wanted to work in Higher Education, specifically in DEIBJ focused work.
After college, Alex worked at Franklin College in both the Center for Student Success & the Center for Diversity and Inclusion. Working in both retention and DEI simultaneously gave Alex the ability to uplift students of color and LGBTQ+ students, as well as connect them to resources across campus to help them succeed.
Which leads us to now! In August 2022, Alex packed their bags and headed back to their home state of Vermont to work at Champlain College in the Women’s and Gender Center. They love helping LGBTQ+ students find their home at Champlain, as well as getting to empower women and uplift survivors of sexual assault and sexual violence. Every day is something different, but having the opportunity to be back in the Green Mountain State doing what they love most makes it all worth it.
Outside of work, you can find Alex spending time with family and friends, and using their camera to see the world through a different lens.
