Calling all YouTubers…

This major gives you the tools to work in television, radio, and for independent production companies. Learn by doing in our digital editing suites, computer labs, and audio studios, as well as in the field. Multiple internship opportunities help you build all the skills you need to uncover, explain, and produce stories that capture the hearts and minds of audiences.

You’ll explore media production across a wide range of emerging digital media channels as well as traditional broadcast platforms like television and radio.

What Is Broadcast Media Production?

Broadcast media studies means learning audio and video creation across channels and platforms for all audiences. Broadcast media producers communicate everything from news and information to entertainment and art, using audio and video technologies in creative ways. If you’re excited to explore what makes a podcast pop, take our mobile studio reproduction equipment out for a spin. Work with real clients and graduate with a striking resume that highlights your professional, client-based work. We invite you to create with us at Champlain.

Why Study it at Champlain?

Champlain’s Bachelor of Science program in Broadcast Media Production gives students the tools and experience to excel in a rapidly changing landscape. Like all of Champlain’s academic programs, Broadcast Media Production is grounded in hands-on learning—like covering stories in the local community that you’ll broadcast live, on-air —that puts you at the center of your studies.

This distinctive program blends storytelling skills with technical production. This means you’ll develop your narrative know-how and understanding of the production process and have the technical capabilities to put those skills to work. You’ll have access to a rental house of equipment that includes a series of Canon cameras for broadcast students, such as the XF 705, XF 300 and XF 200, mobile multi-camera studio system through which we can make a TV show and broadcast live in our studio or anywhere in the field, an internet-based radio station, a sound studio for sonic arts/audio production, and a state-of-the art production studio for classes.

You’ll have the support of industry-expert faculty and career counselors who show you the ropes and open opportunities for you to launch your career. The program includes a required internship during your time at Champlain to expand learning beyond the classroom and build professional experience. Every year, Broadcast Media Production majors can gain valuable experience participating in national and regional competitions – frequently winning awards and recognition in the New England chapter of the National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences (the Emmy’s!) and the Broadcast Education Association (BEA).

Because of the dynamic nature and breadth of the broadcast media production field, the program includes your choice from one of two optional concentrations to begin narrowing your area of study. They are:

  • Motion Graphics: This concentration will teach you the entire motion graphics process from conception to completion.
  • Sonic Arts: This concentration will introduce you to the world of electronic sound design, allowing you to create and construct original film, game, and streaming media scores.
