Bringing Campus Home: The Champlain Family Virtual Engagement Series!
October 2020 - May 2021
In light of the COVID-19 pandemic, Champlain College has reinvented our Family Weekend for this year. Now more than ever, it's important for all of us to feel a sense of community, so we want to engage our Champlain families in our campus and give you a taste of the place your student calls home. With that in mind, Champlain College is excited to announce: Bringing Campus Home: The Champlain Family Virtual Engagement Series!
Bringing Campus Home: The Champlain Family Virtual Engagement Series will allow families of current students to partake in Family Weekend type programming, virtually, throughout the fall and spring semesters. The series includes a wide variety of virtual offerings including webinars, workshops and events designed to help you get to know Champlain, and other Champlain families, better. These virtual offerings fit into one of five focus areas.
Academics: There are multiple opportunities for you to learn more about Champlain. You are invited to join the Academic Deans for an informal "Coffee with the Deans" Zoom session. And, you will have the opportunity to engage with a faculty panel focused on teaching in a Flex-Hybrid format. Watch for more information about the opportunity to visit classes.
Champlain Experience: The Champlain Experience will offer families a chance to learn about the everyday lives of their students, and the fun that can be had even during this "different" fall semester. Families can: participate in a virtual tour of Campus with our mascot Chauncy, and hear from students along the way; learn about events their students might partake in with Student Engagement (virtual Bingo, anyone?); and learn more about SGA, clubs and intramurals. Finally, families will have the opportunity to find out more about some of Champlain's hidden gems such as our Apiary and our Green Initiatives, to name a few.
Internship & Career Success: We're here to share with you the Path to Success through the various internships, experiential learning, and career opportunities that await students after graduation. You'll be invited to meet with the Vice President and Chief of Staff, the Director of Career Collaborative, and the professional Career Coaching team to learn how we help your students achieve their dreams. We'll provide information on how YOU can support our Career Success efforts. We will set up "learning sessions" for you to hear about our top employers, the internship employment landscape, the skills students need to land a job, and - most excitingly - our Career Success story.
Parent & Family Relations: These engagement opportunities will give you the chance to get to know President Benjamin Ola. Akande and learn more about Champlain; hear institutional updates; engage in Q&A sessions with the President; and learn about the future priorities of the College. Virtual Champlain Connect events are also the perfect venue to get to know other parents in your region, the Parent & Family Relations team, our Career Collaborative team, and Champlain College Online. (Please note you will register for those events separately.)
Wellbeing and Student Support: We are looking forward to sharing with parents and supporters ways that Champlain College is supporting your student's wellbeing and to highlight different resources available to your student. Additionally, we will offer some resources specifically for parents on how to support your student as they navigate this "interesting" Fall semester. Some tips and suggestions will be shared from fellow Champlain College parents on how they have successfully supported their students in the past.
In addition to the opportunities to engage with us, while learning more about the ins and outs of life at Champlain, for each program you attend you will receive one Beaver Buck (Champlain's version of a raffle ticket!). We will also provide an opportunity to purchase additional Beaver Bucks with the proceeds going to the Champlain Fund. At the end of the semester, we will draw winners for several Champlain/Vermont-themed items.

Instructions on how to join each event will be sent to those who registered within 24 hours of the start of the program.
